(MCS) is looking for an energetic, self-motivated, and team oriented person to become the school librarian. This is a full-time, 40-hr week (school year) position with benefits. Salary depends on experience. As a Montessori school, we are committed to supporting the development of children by nurturing a love of learning and independence. We have a small, but mighty, library that is greatly appreciated by all the members of the school community and fosters a strong culture of reading. Under the direction of the Head of School, the librarian maintains the library collections, identifies age appropriate resources for students, teachers, and parents; selects appropriate items in support of classroom instruction; and performs clerical functions related to collection, processing, circulation, maintenance, and inventory of library materials. The librarian also oversees part-time assistants and a group of parent volunteers to ensure the reading programs are well implemented.
Candidates should have a 4 year college degree and previous experience working in a library and working with children. A Masters in Library Science is preferred but not required. Strong candidates for this position will empower students to become critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information. As the only librarian at the school, you will be expected to work collaboratively with members of the learning community at the school, to define the policies of the school library, and to guide and direct all activities related to the library.
