Goals and Expectations for Entry into Upper Elementary
Language
- Identify nouns, verbs, articles, adjectives
- Identify synonyms, antonyms, homonyms, homographs
- Know singular and plural forms of nouns
- Know masculine and feminine forms of common nouns
- Know the number of syllables in a word and be able to identify compound words
- Read chapter books and answer factual questions about what was read
- Mastered printing and can write cursive capitals and lower case letters fluently
- Spell words with short sounds, long vowel sounds
- Compose sentences
- Write a paragraph with a topic sentence, detail sentences and concluding sentence
Math
- Identify place value to millions
- Add and subtract 4 digit numbers
- Know multiplication and division facts
- Identify common fractions and mixed numbers
- Add and subtract fractions with like denominators
- Know metric measurements in length, weight and volume
- Use a calculator to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers
